pleated satin, yarn, 260 x150 x 20 cm, 2014
This fabric work as well as Theory of Silence refer to the Panoramic spring collection (1998) of Hussein Chalayan and were published for the 10th anniversary booklet of Dover Street Market London in May 2014. Both works associate with the female silhouette.
In The Malady of Elegance names of women were stitched into the folds that had made a public statement about a rather universal conflict between certain values society agrees on/ or is based on (these values are not up for discussion or negotiable) and the wish for self-determination. The names can be read when the fabric is stretching by its hanging weight.
